Nice Post Peter,

You just wrote here everything that I was thinking....

I noticed that sometimes client gives us keywords and time limit for getting ranking. Even in those keywords some of keywords have double meaning

Eg. Vibrators (“Vibrators” keywords using for Sex Toys and also use for Industrial Vibrators)

And one more thing in their website some of pages has no content and they said me that get ranking of those pages which has no content on 3rd page.

Traffic of the website is depends on the business type of the website and demand of the products and services of the business.

I really like your last answer of “Cost”. I have done Thumbs Up for this Article. :)

Totally agree Pete, I was being facetious. 12 months ago I sold my web development business after 7 years - in retrospect a timely move - and know exactly where you're coming from.

@Luke

We all try and attract qualified leads and I'd like to think the information throughout our blog and website is enough to attract the right clients, but in all industries you'll have customers who don't bother reading all the litrature you provide, and even the ones that do read it could have their own special 'interpretation' of what you mean.

Besides, even if the client is a perfect fit with your business and has realistic expectations, spending the time and effort to extend their current knowledge not only builds rapport but also strengthens the business relationship.

But surely, your website would have educated the client first and ensured he was a qualified lead with realistic expectations ... unless of course it was a referral through a friend who said "Pete's an SEO wiz, he'll get you to number 1 on Google in no time!".

Hi Pete,

Very nicely put. I think that SEO is also an act of educating the client. Without them knowing the correct meaning, every client is going to end up disappointed. A lot of SEO companies win pitches on fake promises - never do that. Be honest and charge for you honest effort put into the campaign!

@joe

Buying dodgy links? I don't do that ;P

Ben summed it up best in an email comment he made a few months back...

"I'm in search of quality embedded web *citations* that encapsulate choice pieces of English prose in a wide range of verticals"
