SiteMost’s Weekly Blog Recap 13/09/07

Posted in: Blog Recap's

I hope you’ve got a few spare minutes because a lot has been going on in the SEO Blogosphere over the last week.

The ACCC launched a case against Google not too long ago and here’s how it ended-up – Watchdog bitten in Google case. Marketing Pilgrim also has a good write-up about it. You’d think companies would realise by now such attempts at taking down Google are futile.

So whilst taking-down Google is futile, taking-down some one using Google isn’t, but it does come at a cost – Man Arrested for Google Bombing Polish President Into Top Spot For “Kutas” (Penis). Whilst on the topic – Link bombing still works. Even unintentionally.

Just before I move-on from Google, there’s also been some talk On Google Banning Directories and Matt tells us about a Useful Google feature: better date search.

Aaron Wall has posted some good stuff recently:
Free Search Traffic: Add Keyword Rich Content to Authoritative Pages
7 Useful Webmaster Tools Google Stole From You
Ride New Verticals or Go Against the Trends of the Web
3 Ways to Get Screwed by Social Media Marketing

Aaron Interviewed Debra Mastaler, the Link Guru and Darren Interviewed Aaron – Learn How to Get Your Blog Ranking High in Search Engines.

For all my fellow bloggers here’s how to SEO-sanitizing a WordPress theme in 5 minutes, here’s 25 Expert Techniques to Have a Successful Blog and Why Your Newsletter Content Should Come From Your Blog.

Usability is getting a bit of press lately from Bill Slawski – Some Recent Google Papers on Usability and User Testing, who also is involved in an interview with Kim Krause Berg on Supplemental Index and Usability. Aaron Wall also has some thoughts with The Immeasurable ROI of Improved Organization, Communication, & Usability

Hamlet and Jen duke it out with Why you should target the most competitive keywords and Five Reasons to Aim Low When You’re Just Learning SEO.

StoneTemple release their 2007 Web Analytics Shootout which is an excellent read if you’re interested in stats tools.

And last, but certainly not least, the SEOmoz SEO Expert Quiz (that I mentioned in my last post) has generated a whole lot of controversy which you can read about here: Dissecting An SEO Quiz — Are There Right Answers?, here: Why the SEOmoz SEO Quiz Is Completely Wrong and here: Why Vanessa Fox is Wrong About SEOmoz Being Wrong.

Whilst a lot of experts are debating the nature of the questions and accuracy of the answers, I’m sure SEOmoz aren’t perturbed as they’re too busy counting-up all the links they gained from that one skillful piece of bait!
