Where to begin…
Posted in: SEO
Taking the first step – or in this case, making the first post is always the hardest part and it has never been more true for writing the first entry for a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) blog – an industry that has been around for years but changes daily.
If you are not sure what SEO is, you might like to have a read of WikiPedia’s entry on optimization or even better – SEOmoz’s Beginner’s Guide.
One of the things you’ll discover with SEO is that it’s a very mixed discipline – to be good at it you need to be technical but possess marketing knowledge; you need to have good writing skills and an understanding of public relations; be creative enough to come-up with ideas that make people all over the world link to your website but at the same time be geeky enough to make it all work.
The byproduct of mixing IT, PR, Copy-Writing, Marketing etc. etc. is that you end-up with an industry that has more acronyms than you can shake a stick at… so to help wade through all the terminology you should have a look through Aaron Wall’s Search Engine Marketing Glossary.
Hopefully this should keep you amused until my next post which covers some of the fundamentals of Search Optimisation and Marketing.
