Once again it’s been a busy week in the blogosphere and here are a bunch of posts that I particularly enjoyed. When I started this post, there were about a dozen more blogs that I was going to mention, but I had to refine the list a little to keep it to a reasonable length. Sorry if you didn’t make the cut – there’s always next week…

To start with, there have been some Major Relevancy Changes at MSN, Yahoo, & Possibly Google. Yes, it was then confirmed that there was also a Google Toolbar PageRank Update (October 2007).

Eric Enge Interviews Google’s Matt Cutts and Marketing Pilgrim covers SMX Local & Mobile Conference Keynote with Michael Jones of Google.

Whilst on the topic of Google:

On the topic of links:

Search Engine Roundtable poses a couple of interesting questions – What Defines an SEO “Expert? and Should Designers Know SEO?

I’m New, I Need Links, What Can I Do? and Aaron Walls post on Fresh Link Building Tips: New Search Filters = Easy Link Research.

It appears a Yahoo September Update is Underway causing temporary searching issues. These changes were also noticed by Aaron Wall – Major Yahoo! Ranking Changes.

And since we’re mentioning Aaron Wall and SEOBook… his insights on Why Google Hand Editing Seems Random are quite good and what’s even better is Everything Aaron Knows About Online Marketing, on One Page.

Marketing Pilgrim continue their study on Eyetracking on Google Universal SERPs

Search Engine Roundtable discuss how Google Analytics Limits You to 50 Accounts and Ranking for Google Image Searches.

Bill Slawski writes An Expansion of Importance Scores for Web Page Rankings? on his own blog as well as contributing an article on Should a Small Business Blog? at Search Engine Land.

If you run a small business and liked Bill’s article above, you’ll love everything Matt says at Small Business SEM. He’s put together a good post on Business Cards: Form over Function?

If you don’t use Google’s Webmaster Tools then there’s something wrong with you. They are a great resource and if you’re not sure about how to best utilise them, here’s A Comprehensive Guide.

Google have been taking their time with the latest toolbar PR updates and Matt Cutts has said on a few forums not to expect any updates in the next few weeks. This has caused some concerns about whether Google are going to stop reporting PR altogether. Darren Rowse and I agree that you should Forget About Page Rank and Build a Better Blog.

There has also been some recent discussions about whether or not it is possible to automate the SEO process. Hamlet Batista provides A detailed look at what can (and can’t) be automated in SEO.

Jill Whalen writes a good post on Search Engine Land about Avoiding Clueless-Is As Clueless-Does SEO… and last, but certainly not least – Google has it’s 9th Birthday!

Here’s a bunch of posts I’ve enjoyed from the Blogosphere in the last seven days (or thereabouts)…

Darren Rowse gives us some tips on Driving Traffic to Your New Blog. On the topic of driving traffic and increasing your online exposure, you may also be interested in these 15 Link Building Methods, Get The Most Out Of Each Of Them.

SEOmoz encourages us to Get Creative With Your 404 Error Pages as well as providing us with An Exhaustive List of Search Engine Based Keyword Research Data.

Aaron Wall does a guest post on Search Engine Land about Web Site Credibility whilst back on his SEObook blog he talks about Links or Content? Nope, the Issue is Attention.

I’ve recently subscribed to Matt McGee’s blog – Small Business SEM and he has a good post on Local Search. Matt also does a regular blog recap post which lead me to Google, duplicate content caused by URL parameters, and you.

Coincidentally, a client asked me this question only a week ago – Does Google Ban Parked Domain Sites?. Search Engine Roundtable also discusses – Google Update Underway? Chinese Spam Impacting Google.com.

Copyblogger talks about the importance of telling people where to click… so please Click Here and whilst you’re there, ask yourself – Are You Using the Five Types of Links Properly?

A debate heats up about whether SEO Can Be Automated … or Not.

Bill Slawski from SEO By The Sea wrote a post in October last year on 20 Ways Search Engines May Rerank Search Results… last week he revisited this idea with a post on 20 More Ways that Search Engines May Rerank Search Results. Whilst you’re there, I’d also recommend reading his post Google Patent on Desktop Search and Implicit Queries Based Upon Active Documents .

If anyone has any feedback or thinks I’ve missed something crucial in the happenings of the SEO world – add some comments and let me know… Thanks

I hope you’ve got a few spare minutes because a lot has been going on in the SEO Blogosphere over the last week.

The ACCC launched a case against Google not too long ago and here’s how it ended-up – Watchdog bitten in Google case. Marketing Pilgrim also has a good write-up about it. You’d think companies would realise by now such attempts at taking down Google are futile.

So whilst taking-down Google is futile, taking-down some one using Google isn’t, but it does come at a cost – Man Arrested for Google Bombing Polish President Into Top Spot For “Kutas” (Penis). Whilst on the topic – Link bombing still works. Even unintentionally.

Just before I move-on from Google, there’s also been some talk On Google Banning Directories and Matt tells us about a Useful Google feature: better date search.

Aaron Wall has posted some good stuff recently:

Aaron Interviewed Debra Mastaler, the Link Guru and Darren Interviewed Aaron – Learn How to Get Your Blog Ranking High in Search Engines.

For all my fellow bloggers here’s how to SEO-sanitizing a WordPress theme in 5 minutes, here’s 25 Expert Techniques to Have a Successful Blog and Why Your Newsletter Content Should Come From Your Blog.

Usability is getting a bit of press lately from Bill Slawski – Some Recent Google Papers on Usability and User Testing, who also is involved in an interview with Kim Krause Berg on Supplemental Index and Usability. Aaron Wall also has some thoughts with The Immeasurable ROI of Improved Organization, Communication, & Usability

Hamlet and Jen duke it out with Why you should target the most competitive keywords and Five Reasons to Aim Low When You’re Just Learning SEO.

StoneTemple release their 2007 Web Analytics Shootout which is an excellent read if you’re interested in stats tools.

And last, but certainly not least, the SEOmoz SEO Expert Quiz (that I mentioned in my last post) has generated a whole lot of controversy which you can read about here: Dissecting An SEO Quiz — Are There Right Answers?, here: Why the SEOmoz SEO Quiz Is Completely Wrong and here: Why Vanessa Fox is Wrong About SEOmoz Being Wrong.

Whilst a lot of experts are debating the nature of the questions and accuracy of the answers, I’m sure SEOmoz aren’t perturbed as they’re too busy counting-up all the links they gained from that one skillful piece of bait!
